Rev Cycle Director
Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance the Revenue Cycle Director will oversee the credentialing, referrals, prior authorization, insurance eligibility/verification, financial clearance, coding/ charge entry, claims edit and claims submission functions, for the entire organization.
The Director will be responsible for establishing and maintaining payer relationships that function as productive partnerships to support successful revenue operations.
In addition, the Director will serve as primary liaison with a third-party vendor who manages our back-end collections/follow-up and payment posting functions, including routine report reviews and issue resolutions as they arise (which may cross multiple areas within the organization).
The Revenue Cycle Director will lead the department to maximize reimbursement, streamline processes that impact the integrity and accuracy of patient billing, enhance the referrals workflow process, improve the customer service experience and work collaboratively with other department leaders as needed to achieve success.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for achieving annual performance goals as established by the Chief Operating Office and Vice President, Finance
- Develop and execute a detailed plan to improve working capital and revenue cycle net collection rate through continuous improvement of financial clearance accuracy, coding accuracy, reducing days in AR, increasing cash collections, reducing bad debt, eliminating write-offs due to revenue process issues and improving customer and patient satisfaction.
- Provide leadership and guidance to all department team members in the area of Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management and Patient Access in order to meet the expected level of performance as defined by organizational leadership and continuously move the organization to leading practices.
- Hiring and on-board training for all staff in the department.
- Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff compliance with best practices.
- Monitors daily operating productivity of the department and makes necessary adjustments in work assignments.
- Provides leadership in communicating regularly and effectively with subordinates and superiors regarding the status and condition of Revenue Cycle performance.
- Serve as self-directed Revenue Cycle expert and resource across the company.
- Partner with other departmental leadership to lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and workflows which impact net revenue, cash flow or performance efficiency across the Revenue Cycle function that align with the strategic direction of the organization.
- Establishes, implements and monitors a system for the collection of delinquent accounts ensuring third-party payers are contacted for insurance balances and self-pay/patient balances are collected according to established guidelines.
- Establishes and recommends credit and collection policies as applicable and works collaboratively with third party vendor(s) when needed on collection efforts.
- In conjunction with IT, manage and oversee the development of technology solutions to improve efficiencies and reduce delays in workflow processes.
- Reviews status of patient accounts receivable to identify and resolve billing and processing problems in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular audits to identify billing errors, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Initiates and answers pertinent correspondence. Prepares and writes reports and presentations as needed. Maintains required records and files.
- In collaboration with a third party vendor, ensure that payments are received according to contract. Measures and monitors account collection against expected contract amounts.
- Ensures KPIs are within established thresholds.
- Support negotiations with payers and development of contracting strategies for the organization
- Develop and monitor an annual operational budget as well as any capital budget requests and complete all fiduciary responsibilities of the Revenue Cycle department.
- Develop strategic business plans to support the Mission, Vision and Values of Therapy Tree
- Develop and ensure that all activities of the Revenue Cycle are performed in accordance with state and federal regulations, mandated collection practices, all other regulatory agencies and are HIPAA compliant.
- Maintains current knowledge of all legislative actions and decisions impacting Therapy Tree services offerings and practice issues.
- Participate in professional groups pertinent to the industry and Revenue Cycle profession.
- Attends seminars as appropriate to assist Therapy Tree in providing the most up to date services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or a combination of credentials and experience required.
- Master's degree in a health-related field preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in a healthcare setting with a work record that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management and Patient Access
- Demonstrated leadership in the core values of the organization.
- Reviewing insurance contracts
- Knowledge of healthcare industry financial statistical indicators required, particular focus around net revenue impacted metrics.
- At least 5 years in a management position required for teams no less than 10
- Technology proficiency in business software and ability to prepare analysis in multiple tools.
- AdvancedMD EHR experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with technology transition/implementation
